The newly-established United Arab Emirates (UAE) defense company Halcon has been awarded a $1 billion contract to deliver Desert Sting-16 precision guided systems to the UAE Armed Forces.

The Desert Sting family of weapon systems provides delivery for warheads ranging from 5kg to 35kg.

Its two variants, the DS-8 and DS-16, benefit from inertial guidance technology that is augmented by a global navigation satellite system.

“We are honoured to provide the best-in-class precision-guided weapons to the UAE Armed Forces,” Saeed Al Mansoori, CEO of Halcon, said commenting the deal.

“This will help strengthen capabilities, equipping them with enhanced efficiency, reliability, and assurance – and overall enabling a more secure future.”

Halcon is one of eleven subsidiaries of EDGE, a defense technology company inaugurated in the UAE in November.
