Defense and space company Amergint has agreed to acquire Raytheon’s Raytheon space-based precision optics business.

Raytheon is shedding its space optics business based in Danbury, Connecticut, as part of its merger procedure with United Technologies. The newly-created Raytheon Technologies will also have to divest of the military airborne radios and military Global Positioning System (GPS) businesses.

“For as long as the United States has recognized the need to observe the Earth from space, this business has delivered technological breakthroughs to do so,” Larry Hill, CEO of Amergint Technology Holdings, said. “We are proud to bring together their preeminent electro-optical capabilities with Amergint’s next generation solutions for capturing, processing, transporting and exploiting mission critical data.”

Amergint is a provider of software-defined technology for military, intelligence and commercial space. The company delivers solutions to manage the capture, processing, transport and exploitation of vital mission data for communication and data links.

The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions, including the receipt of the required US regulatory approvals.
