An F/A-18 Super Hornet embarked aboard US Navy aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) blew overboard due to unexpected heavy weather in the Mediterranean Sea on July 8, the service revealed.

As explained, the carrier was conducting a replenishment-at-sea at the time of the mishap, which was safely terminated through established procedures.

The navy noted that all personnel aboard the ship are accounted for, while one sailor received minor injuries. The sailor is in stable condition and expected to make a full recovery, the service said.

The navy added that details and the cause of the incident are still under investigation, without revealing further details.

Questions remain on where exactly the ship was operating at the time of the accident, or what other ships were involved in the replenishment-at-sea maneuver.

The most recent known location of the carrier was the Ionian Sea. USS Harry S. Truman is currently on a deployment to the European theater, having arrived to the Mediterranean Sea in December last year.
