The German federal police coast guard has commissioned Bad Düben (BP 83), its third and final Potsdam-class offshore patrol vessel (OPV).

The ship was commissioned on November 20 in the Port of Cuxhaven after it was delivered by shipbuilder Fassmer.

The commissioning of Bad Düben took place just two months after the second unit, the Bamberg (BP 82), entered service in September. The first ship in the class was commissioned in December 2018.

The 86-meter OPVs feature a flight deck that accommodate the Super Puma medium helicopter and have enough storage space for five mission containers. They can also launch and recover two interceptor boats.

The Potsdam-class carries the BAE Systems-built 57mm naval gun as its main weapon.
