Finnish shipbuilder Patria has delivered Tornio, the first of four Hamina class missile boats to be modernized, to the Finnish Navy.

Sister boats Hamina, Hanko and Pori are scheduled to undergo identical mid-life overhauls and upgrades by 2021.

Patria acts as the prime contractor, designer and the lead system integrator.

The boats are receiving new BAE Systems naval gun systems, and the Saab-built 9LV combat management system (CMS), including the Ceros 200 fire control director and the Trackfire remote weapon station (RWS).

Additionally, the boats will be fitted with light torpedoes, becoming the only units in the Finnish Navy with this capability.

The goal of the mid-life upgrade project is to secure the service life of the vessels until 2030’s and to extend the vessels’ independent operation time.
