German CH-53 helicopters targeted by small arms fire in Afghanistan

Two German Air Force CH-53 helicopters were shot at from the ground in an incident in Afghanistan on February 11.

The helicopters came under fire at 16:20 local time, while en route from the Camp Marmal near Masar-i Scharif to the Pamir camp in the vicinity of Kundus.

According to the German defense ministry, the helicopters were targeted by small arms fire. No one was injured in the attack.

The helicopters were able to land safely in Kundus after suffering light damage. The defense ministry said the incident was under investigation without pointing to who could be responsible for the attack.
