Russian Helicopters contracted for development of new naval helicopter

Russian Helicopters, part of the Rostec organization, said it has into an agreement with the Russian defense ministry for the development of a new helicopter for the country’s navy.

The signing ceremony took place at the ARMY-2020 military forum taking place in Moscow.

According to the company, the new helicopter will be a multi-mission platform capable of supporting search and rescue, troop transport and anti-submarine warfare missions. Envisioned as a replacement for the Ka-27 / Ka-29 helicopter platforms currently in service, the new helicopter will be capable of operating in all theaters, including the high north.

“This is a new stage in the creation of a promising ship-based helicopter. Together with the Russian defense ministry, we have formed the terms of reference for conducting research and development on this topic. The design of the helicopter has been determined, and we are progressing according to schedule,” said the general director of the Russian Helicopters Andrei Boginsky.

The first stage of the development is to be completed within the next three years.
