The Dutch defense ministry has contracted Germany-based technology company Rohde & Schwarz Benelux for work on a new capability that would provide better protection against improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
To be delivered by 2021, the solution is based on a commercial vehicle and jammers that will be able to neutralize the possibility of the explosive devices being activated remotely.
As announced by the defense ministry, Rohde & Schwarz will develop what is called the TESt Lane Analysis Mobile (TESLA-M) vehicle. The vehicle will be capable of employing a range of jammer configurations in a broad electromagnetic spectrum. The instruments will be fitted inside a Mercedes Sprinter van.
Once the TESLA-M is delivered, it will be further refined by the defense ministry’s counter IED defense expertise center and the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research (TNO).
