The Australian defense ministry confirmed the deaths of two members of the Brisbane-based 7th Combat Brigade following a vehicle incident at the Townsville Field Training Area on August 30.

The soldiers were travelling along a public road when their MAN HX77 heavy multi-purpose tactical truck rolled.

Defense rescue and medical teams attended to provide immediate treatment, however the members were later confirmed deceased at the scene. No other members were injured during the incident.

Chief of the Army, Lieutenant General Rick Burr, AO, DSC, MVO said supporting the families was his highest priority.

“This is a tragic accident and our deepest sympathies go to the families and loved ones of our soldiers.

“Our highest priority is caring for the families, friends and loved ones of our soldiers and we ask that you respect their privacy during this difficult time.

“It is with this in mind that we will not be releasing the names of our soldiers at this time.”

The Australian Army 7th Brigade is currently a three-week training program, which is preceding a four-month training deployment to Malaysia.
