A Swiss Air Force F-5 Tiger jet crashed in the morning hours of May 26 in the Melchsee-Frutt area, in central Switzerland.

The pilot managed to eject from the aging aircraft and sustained no injuries in the accident, according to the Swiss defense ministry.

The country’s armed forces said the details of the crash would be revealed as they become available.

The F-5 was one of 53 remaining in the Swiss Air Force inventory at over 40 years old. Less than 30 are currently flown solely for training purposes.

Switzerland originally bought 110 airframes from Northrop Grumman and is selling off the aircraft to the US Navy, where they serve in adversary air training roles.

The US Navy has so far bought 44 Tigers from Switzerland and is looking to buy another 22 units.
