UAE cleared to buy Chinook helicopters under potential $830m deal

The US State Department has approved the sale of ten CH-47F Chinook cargo helicopters to the United Arab Emirates.

Should the potential foreign military sale realized, the deal would be worth an estimated $830.3 million.

Included in UAE’s request for the acquisition of the helicopters are AN/AAR-57 common missile warning systems (CMWS), twenty M134D-H mini guns, and twenty M240H machine guns.

The deal would also entail aircraft survivability equipment such as tactical radios, infrared suppression systems, fast rope insertion/extraction systems, extended range fuel systems and ballistic armor protection.

The principal contractors would be Boeing and Honeywell Engine Company.

The H-47 medium-to-heavy-lift helicopter has a 370.4 kilometer mission radius a service ceiling of 6,096 meters and a max gross weight of 22,680 kg, according to Boeing specifications.
