Norway is preparing to welcome warships from four countries ahead of the start of major NATO exercise Dynamic Guard that will take place off the coast of Bergen.

A total of 15 vessels, from the navies of the Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, Norway and France, are set to take part in Dynamic Guard and Norway’s overlapping national anti-submarine warfare drill.

The two-week exercise will also include maneuvers with reconnaissance aircraft and helicopter.

In total, 15 Norwegian and allied naval vessels will participate in the exercises, together with reconnaissance aircraft and helicopters. The goal of the exercises is to educate and train the future submarines and practice maritime warfare scenarios.

Dynamic Guard will be spearheaded by Royal Norwegian Navy’s Fridtjof Nansen-class frigate HNoMS Otto Sverdrup, which is also the flagship of NATO’s Standing Maritime Group 1 (SNMG1). SNMG1 will be under Norwegian command for the next six months.
