Norway announced it has donated another 10,000 artillery shells to Ukraine, with the material already shipped to Kyiv.

The artillery shells can be used with several types of artillery systems, including with the M109 self-propelled howitzers that Norway previously donated to aid Ukraine’s defense against the Russian invasion.

“It is important for Europe’s and Norway’s security that Ukraine succeeds in standing up to Russia’s attack. Ukraine needs international support in the form of military equipment and training of its own forces. Norway has contributed heavily through 2022, and will continue to contribute to support Ukraine in 2023,” defense minister Bjørn Arild Gram said.

The artillery shells are taken from the Norwegian military stocks, after the consequence of such a move for national preparedness was assessed.

“Ukraine needs support quickly, and we therefore continue to assess what we can donate from the structure of the armed forces. At the same time, we are investigating what we can acquire directly from the producer to donate further,” Gram added.

In addition to the howitzers and artillery rounds, Norway has also sent Hellfire missile systems and Mistral surface to air systems to Ukraine. It also funded the purchase of 16 Zuzana 2 self-propelled howitzers for Ukraine together with Germany and Denmark.
