The USS Michigan (SSGN 727) (Blue), an Ohio-class guided-missile submarine, arrived in Busan, Republic of Korea (ROK), on June 16, as part of its planned port visit.

Michigan’s arrival in Busan on this port call signifies its first visit to the city since 2017, complementing the wide array of exercises, training, operations, and other collaborative activities conducted in the area.

Michigan, an Ohio-class guided-missile submarine, is among a group of four such submarines known for their ability to conduct covert strike missions.

These submarines possess tactical missiles and advanced communication capabilities, enabling them to launch missile strikes and support Special Operation Forces operations.

With its size, measuring over 560 feet in length and weighing more than 18,000 tons when submerged, Michigan stands as one of the largest submarines globally.

The USS Michigan, an Ohio-class ballistic missile submarine (SSBN) and guided missile submarine (SSGN), serves as the second submarine of its kind.

Homeported in Naval Base Kitsap, Washington, the USS Michigan operates under the command of Commander, Submarine Group (CSG) 7, within the US 7th Fleet area of operations.

CSG 7, the largest US forward-deployed numbered fleet, directs forward-deployed, combat-capable forces throughout the Western Pacific, Indian Ocean and Arabian Sea.

Last year, USS Michigan (SSGN 727) made a visit to Okinawa, Japan as part of her deployment to the US 7th Fleet area of operations.
