The US Navy has awarded AgustaWestland Philadelphia Corp. a $171 million contract modification for the delivery of an additional 36 TH-73A training helicopters.

Deliveries under the contract are expected to be completed by December 2022.

The contract modification follows the January 2020 contract award to Leonardo, through AgustaWestland Philadelphia Corp., for the first 32 TH-73A helicopters.

AgustaWestland Philadelphia Corporation is expected to produce 130 helicopters to fulfill rotary wing and intermediate tilt-rotor training requirements for the Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard through 2050.

According to the service, the TH-73A AHTS will reach initial operational capability in 2021 and will provide the training tools for the next generations of rotary and tilt-rotor pilots for the US and select allied nations.

TH-73A is replacing the navy’s ageing TH-57 training helicopter fleet.
